{jcomments on}Bujumbura – Pana 26/05/2010 – Bujumbura, Burundi’s ruling National Council for the defence of Democracy/Forces of Defence and Democracy (CNDD-FDD) is leading in the municipal elections held Monday in the country, according to the provisional result published Tuesday by the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI). The party is ahead of the second-placed party by tens of thousands of votes, according to the partial result.

Some 24 of the 44 political parties officially recognized in the country took part in these elections, the first in a series of staggered elections that will culminate in the presidential polls in September.
